The staff at RICTS made it their duty to brighten up a few smiles in the township of Khayelitsha, Cape Town — more specifically the Kuyasa Educare Centre on Mandela Day 2018. Members of the team spent some quality time with children from the centre making them feel like little celebrities.
The RICTS operations department team took time out to fix up and stabilise the jungle gym area at the centre, as well as repositioning the tyres in order to broaden the play area. In addition, they replaced fencing, electricity power points, broken lights and switches. An IBR roof sheet was replaced and paving was sponsored by RICTS.
RICTS staff spent quality time enjoying a morning of reading, dancing and singing with the tiny tots. Staff then split up into teams to prepare lunch for children and centre staff members. They made a fire and barbecued some sausage (boerewors), making ’boerie’ rolls and serving fizzy drinks as a welcome refreshment. After the meal each child was given a treat – a party pack filled with some sweets.
RICTS staff members also donated a few essentials such as 120 plastic plates, cups and bowls for children to use at meal times at Kuyasa Educare. A fire extinguisher and basic first aid kit (to bandage small scars and bruises) were also donated.
The RICTS team believe in giving back to their communities and will continue to assist where they can.
